What is Laser Therapy?

What is Laser Therapy?

Laser Therapy, or "photobiomodulation", is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near-infrared) to create therapeutic effects. These effects include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling. Laser Therapy has been widely utilized in Europe by physical therapists, nurses and doctors as far back as the 1970's. Now, after FDA clearance in 2002, Laser Therapy is being used extensively in the United States.

K-Laser Therapy: Experience Healing in a Different Light

One of the easiest ways chiropractors can promote healing is through K-laser therapy. This process, also known as photobiomodulation, involves the emittance of red and near-infrared light onto an injured spot on the body. This light triggers a natural restorative response in which the body flushes the injured area with the necessary fluids and nutrients to boost healing. Laser therapy is very beneficial because it relieves pain and inflammation, improves blood flow, and encourages faster healing.

Laser therapy has grown in popularity because it combines effectiveness with speed and relative ease. A normal laser therapy session can take up to 10 minutes. While a session takes place, patients seldom notice a change in sensation. A treated area can sometimes feel more relaxed or more sensitive until the pain relief begins. When the session is complete, patients often feel remarkable improvements with hardly any drawbacks.

Already a popular treatment in Europe for many years, laser therapy has been widely implemented in the U.S. since it was cleared by FDA more than 15 years ago. Sendroff Chiropractic Center is proud to offer this therapy to the greater Hickory area. It is common for us to incorporate laser therapy with our other treatments because, in our 20 years of practice, we have seen firsthand how a multifaceted approach improves care and well-being for our patients.
